Of course, reasonable logic must be employed to avoid uptight accusation, however, "Turn the other cheek and they'll slap that one, too." Strength and self-preservation is of utmost importance, rather than weak-minded martyrdom. The certainty of vengeance serves as a warning and deterrent, a prime example of this is women for concealed firearms http://www.marylandshallissue.org/women.html. "God" and/or "Universal Karmic Law" is not going to protect the vulnerable from the free will of criminals, this has to be addressed by the autonomy of the vulnerable to be self-reliant in self-preservation. "Turn the other cheek" is disempowering for those who willingly subscribe or are indoctrinated/brainwashed into this behavior. Restricting healthy, free will; the alternative is standing up for oneself with the price of guilt, believing this is wrong and the fear of unknown retribution for violating this predominant dogma. Transferring power from the self (the only righteous virtue we have) and investing it into an external source of will not only leaves the vulnerable open further but robs individuals of the power associated with self-reliance.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
